Ivanka Trump Preparing the Opening of US Embassy in Jerusalem

Israelis were basking in national pride and pro-American fervor Sunday as tens of thousands marched in Jerusalem, a day ahead of the controversial USA embassy move from Tel Aviv to the disputed city.

Today, the USA will officially open its new embassy in Jerusalem.

US President Donald Trump announced the decision to move the embassy to Jerusalem and thus recognize it as the Israeli capital in December. Protests from Palestinians erupted over the weekend and are expected to continue this week.

Sunday's celebrations coincided with Israel's "Jerusalem Day", the 51st anniversary of what it refers to the city's "unification" during the 1967 Mideast war.

Military intelligence indicates, however, that Hamas won't wait the extra day and will instead push up the violence to May 14 to coincide with Monday's US Embassy move in an attempt to attract more worldwide attention.

He also said it was clear that Trump was "much less affected by the institutional baggage of the State Department, which I think is sometimes good, as in this case, though I might have different feelings about it on other issues". Palestinians want to make East Jerusalem the capital of a future Palestinian state, while the far-right in Israel, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, view an undivided Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The club owners made a decision to change the name of the team to "Beitar Trump Jerusalem". Additionally, police officers will stand in a "human wall" between the neighborhood of Arnona, where the new embassy is located, and the Palestinian Sur Baher, the police said.

Israel's army said it would nearly double the number of troops surrounding the Gaza Strip and in the occupied West Bank. "It is not a provocation".

There were already tensions in the weeks before the embassy move.

Since March 30, 42 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire in the weekly protests aimed primarily against the decade-long blockade of Gaza.

Currently, dozens of people evacuated from Leilani Estates, where the USGS warns more fissures may open, still remain in shelters. Scientists say activity from the most recent lava fissure that opened up has paused but risky fumes continue to be released.

No Israelis have been wounded and the military has faced criticism over the use of live fire.

The Islamic militant group Hamas that rules Gaza has told Egyptian mediators that a massive rally along the Gaza-Israel border is going ahead as planned. Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh said the entire Palestinian people will be out on the streets.

Greenblatt and other administration officials have not said how they would move forward without a Palestinian partner.

Sunday, Israel took steps to bolstered its forces along the Gaza border and in the West Bank in anticipation of mass protests.

The gala in honor of the Embassy move, hosted by Israel's Foreign Ministry, will see representatives from across the world, including four from the European Union which voiced opposition to the move.

"President Trump promised to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and he did so". The move infuriated the Palestinians, who claim Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem as their capital.

Gov. Rick Scott on Sunday flew to Israel for the opening of the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem - an official trip that also sends signals to voters in Florida as he seeks to replace Sen.

While the US State Department insists that the embassy move does not prejudge final status negotiations on East Jerusalem, where Palestinians hope to establish their capital, Mr Trump himself declared otherwise in January, saying his recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital had taken the issue "off the table".

The US embassy move "gives life to a religious conflict instead of a dignified peace", it said in a statement.

"The Israelis are obviously desirous of this, and they've requested this, and they're very happy by it", Friedman said.
