Scott Arfield arrives in Glasgow ahead of 'terrific' Rangers switch

Scott Arfield has joined Rangers from Burnley on a four-year deal, the club has announced.

Arfield chose to leave Burnley as his contract came to an end with the prospect of a new challenge under England and Liverpool legend Gerrard too tempting to turn down.

Arfield, who will become Steven Gerrard's first signing at the Ibrox club, says he is excited by the prospect of working with the former Liverpool and England captain, but admits he is yet to speak with his new boss.

Arfield - who was the scorer of Burnley's first-ever Premier League goal - played 193 games for the Clarets as they have slowly progressed from the Championship to finish seventh in the Premier League this season, confirming their Europa League place for the next campaign. "I go this time with the supporters' blessing and everyone within the club's blessing because they see the opportunity, they see the size of Glasgow Rangers and how hard it would have been where I was to turn down".

After five seasons at Burnley, Arfield arrives with a wealth of experience for a Rangers side looking to mount a serious challenge to arch rivals Celtic.

"I just wonder if that was Steven Gerrard's influence (starting) Jordan Rossiter today", Sutton said during the 5-5 draw between the sides during BT Sport 1's live coverage on Sunday.

Arfield knows Scottish football well, having lined out for Falkirk between 2007 and 2010, as well as representing the national team at underage level before switching his allegiances to Canada.
