Pennsylvania the focus of Democratic, GOP primary races Tuesday

Pennsylvania primary voters will also decide the fate of President Donald Trump's pick for U.S. Senate.

In Idaho's primary election voters must select a Republican, Democrat or nonpartisan ballot.

Democrats could benefit in this key battleground state with a new congressional map, as well as open seats in races that will help predict the party's chances in November. That's more than any time since 1984, when Pennsylvania had 23 seats in the House.

A more interesting contest comes in the northeastern district being vacated by retiring Representative Charlie Dent, one of the few remaining moderate Republicans in the House. The new maps are generally more favorable to Democrats than Republicans, but Tuesday's election results will make that even more clear.

Ten Democrats are running in suburban Philadelphia's 5th District, where Rep. Patrick Meehan resigned last month amid allegations he sexually harassed a former employee and where Clinton also beat Trump.

Republican incumbent Sen. Deb Fischer will face a Democratic challenger in the fall - possibly Jane Raybould, a Lincoln City Council member who experts believe would contend for the seat in November if she wins her party's primary Tuesday. Bob Casey unopposed for his party's nomination.
