A police officer from IL, has prevented what could be a bloody attack on the high school Dixon, when faced with a former student who opened fire in the hallway, when high school students rehearsed for the upcoming prom nearby. The gunman, whose name was not released, was confronted by a school resource officer after he fired several shots near the west gym, Howell said.

The father of a Dixon High School student was shaken after finding out that a gunman was shot Wednesday morning at Dixon High School.

The suspect then shot at the officer, who returned fire and injured the male, who was arrested.

The Chicago Tribune identified the officer who engaged with the gunman as school resource officer Mark Dallas.

"I could not be more proud of the police officer".
