Weekend Memorial Day services scheduled

"A Taste of Catlettsburg" Memorial Day Celebration will be held at the Boyd County Extension Office. This was all completed in two hours, allowing legion members to reassemble on the Village Green by 11 a.m. for a parade through town. The flag retirement ceremony will be taking place in the Veteran's Memorial Garden near the Old St. Louis Road entrance and reflection pond.

The township will hold its annual tribute today at 7 the North Bergen Recreation Center, 6300 Meadowview Blvd. This event is open to the public.

Salineville: Salineville will begin Memorial Day activities with a parade at 9:15 a.m. Monday starting at the American Legion.

A member of that committee, Wesley Acton, said the memorial service is a fitting reminder of those almost forgotten. The museum and other organizations are proving free food and drinks to veterans and their families.

CARY-GROVE AMVETS FLAGS AT WINDRIDGE, 5 to 6 p.m. Despite the heavy rains that washed out Madison's annual Memorial Day parade through the downtown business district, the storm clouds did not dim Madison's patriotism, as some 150 people attended commemoration ceremonies held indoors instead, in the spacious rotunda of the Hartley Dodge Memorial municipal building, with elected officials and many veterans and their families and supporters on hand.

If the weather doesn't cooperate, the memorial ceremony will be at 10 the recreation center, 41 Conanicus Ave.

Following that ceremony, everyone is invited to the Plano American Legion for a short open house with snacks. The parade will form at 10:30 a.m. Monday at East Fifth Street and move out at 11, traveling along Jackson to Sixth and disbanding at Broadway. Refreshments will be provided and served at the firehouse after the parade. The Legion post is also requesting assistance with removing the flags at 5 p.m. Monday, May 28. In case of rain, the services will also be held at the Legion post. Approximately 1,000 veterans and active military members participated in last year's event and Salvia says any who are interested in walking or riding in provided jeeps should meet in the post's parking lot by 10:00am, giving veterans time for fellowship prior to beginning. The speaker will be Amanda Ingram, USAR. Pine Mount Cemetery and 12:45 p.m. Sandwich VFW Post, 713 S. Main St.

The Pennsylvania State Mounted Police will lead the parade, which begins at 10 a.m. Monday near the American Legion and marches through Beech Creek, stopping on the bridge for a Memorial Day ceremony before continuing through Blanchard.

At the ceremony at the cemetery, Ramona High School's Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps Color Guard will present the colors, Sandy Teichert will sing the national anthem, NJROTC will provide the bugler, a wreath will be placed on the unknown soldier's grave, and flowers will be presented to Gold Star mothers whose son or daughter was killed in war or is missing in action.

He said, "We have a list of 29 veterans of the revolution buried in Daviess County, and we're always looking for more".

The church will hold a brief ceremony to rededicate an authentic World War II honor roll in memory of the 173 church members who fought in World War II. Light refreshments, hot dogs, and hamburgers will be served.

According to the Madison Patriotic Celebrations Committee, men and women in all branches of the military killed in action or who died as a result of other causes while on active duty, as well as those now serving in the military and whose families live in Madison, will be honored at Madison's Memorial Day observances the morning of Monday, May 28. A ceremony will take place at 11 the cemetery.

St. Thomas: The event will start with a graveside ceremony at the grave of Llewellyn Smith, which is close to the entrance of Western Cemetery No. 1. The All Veterans Memorial Association will host the observance.
