Katie Taylor’s father seriously injured in Irish boxing club shooting

Pete Taylor was training fighters at Bray Boxing Club in Bray, County Wicklow, near Dublin, just before 7am this morning when a shooter opened fire.

His daughter, Katie, is the woman's unified lightweight champion and won gold at the 2012 London Olympics.

The incident took place at about 6:55 am this morning and the three men are believed to be seriously injured.

The garda helicopter has been circulating the scene while the armed response unit is also in the area as gardai go door to door with their enquiries.

"A number of people had gathered to commence a gym session", said Garda Superintendent Pat Ward at scene of the shooting.

Sports and keep fit enthusiast Bobby Messett, 50, died while Pete Taylor, 57, sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries in the attack near Dublin.

"We don't know if there was anyone else in that van with him".
