Amazon's Fire TV Cube turns Alexa into your remote

Amazon's Fire TV Cube turns Alexa into your remote

This means you can ask Alexa to find sci-fi movies, play movie trailers or show more results. I get Alexa to summon a live feed from my little Wyze security camera, too. Today, the company has announced a new product called the Amazon Fire TV Cube, which combines the Amazon Echo smart speaker, the Amazon Fire TV streaming set-top box, and a universal remote. You can check out the full list of features for the Fire TV Cube below, then it's decision time. It's a logical "next step" for Alexa, both for those that are new to the voice assistant and consumers that may already have an Echo in another part of their home. But the most compelling idea has always been simply telling our TVs what to do. You can use your voice to play, pause, and resume content, but that's not all. The box itself includes IR blasters on all four sides that can control any IR controlled device in the room.

Amazon's Fire TV Cube is available to pre-order for $119.99.

The Fire TV Cube is really optimized for the latest 4K TVs, but not all the latest 4K TVs. It does support Dolby Atmos surround sound, however.

Echo Look utilizes computer vision and Alexa to provide style tips and fashion advice. You didn't think Amazon would miss a chance to encourage you to buy things, did you?

Salad Cream set for name change
There is now a consultation under way on the new name and an official announcement is expected in September. United Kingdom sales of the brand dipped 5.4% to £28.8m in 2017.

Amazon Fire TV Cube is compatible with set-top boxes from top providers such as Comcast, DISH, and DIRECTV, covering more than 90 percent of households with a cable or satellite subscription.

Unfortunately a "traditional Amazon Fire TV experience" also extends to there being no official YouTube app, which puts something of a dampener on the idea of the Fire TV Cube being the one home theatre device to rule them all. Also, at $120, it's not not expensive.

The Amazon Echo Look is a very fashion-focused device, and so it's going to appeal to a certain crowd. It comes with an IR extender cable and Ethernet adapter, and will start shipping on June 21.
