U.S. chef and TV host Anthony Bourdain dead at 61

Anthony Bourdain's death by suicide on Friday prompted an outpouring of grief on social media, with fellow celebrities, foodies and fans paying tribute to the writer and television host who charmed many with his unvarnished, thoughtful commentary.

Bourdain established himself as a premiere author and award-winning television personality, giving insights into the culinary world.

His 2000 book Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly revealed a behind-the-scenes view of life as a top chef and became an instant hit.

Bourdain's death drew new attention to celebrity suicides. His show, "Parts Unknown", spent time covering the Detroit food scene during the city's bankruptcy. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly hard time'.

The 61-year-old Bourdain, who was found dead in France of an apparent suicide Friday, applied his well-known opinionated, tough-talking personality to speaking out against sexual harassment, especially in the restaurant industry where he first gained global renown.

CNN said the cause of death was suicide. The center recommended a broad approach to prevention, including boosting economic support by states, supporting family and friends after a suicide, and identifying and supporting those at risk.

A CDC report finds that suicides rose across the country in more than half of states by more than 30 percent between 1999 and 2016.
