Putin gets some love from Xi and Trump

Stressing that Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination remains Russia's diplomatic priority, Putin said the two countries have taken care of each other's core interests and major concerns, actively promoted dialogues and cooperation in political, economic and people-to-people and cultural areas, and worked closely in worldwide affairs.

The most powerful Russian and Chinese leaders in decades, Putin and Xi have forged closer ties as Trump has labeled both countries economic rivals that challenge United States interests and values. He added, however, that no concrete agreements have been reached and no discussions were under way.

Putin's remarks followed a report that White House officials were working toward setting up a meeting.

The Chinese president said Tehran and Beijing must boost cooperation at the United Nations, the SCO and the Confederation of International Contractors' Associations (CICA) in order to counter the U.S. unilateralism. "Russia calls for strict and consistent implementation of this plan", Putin stated. At any rate, we are ready for it.

"No matter what country has terrorists, we must strengthen our regional cooperation and not allow them to affect regional security", he told reporters, adding that the SCO bloc had stopped "hundreds" of terrorist acts. That changed when Moscow moved to annex Crimea from Ukraine in March, when the other members of the Group declared the suspension of the G-8 format and return to the G-7.

Trump on Friday suggested that Russian Federation should be reinstated to the group, telling reporters that his view "may not be politically correct" but "we should have Russian Federation at the negotiating table".

Trump had said Saturday that re-admitting Russian Federation to the elite club would be "an asset", telling reporters, "We're looking for peace in the world".

Russian Federation was admitted to the club at the annual summit in Denver, Colorado in the Western United States, amid tensions within the group, with U.S. President Bill Clinton and British Prime Minister Tony Blair pushing for Moscow's inclusion while other members of the G-7 opposing the decision.

Putin said it was not Russia's decision to quit the G7, saying he would be happy to see G7 leaders in Russian Federation.

"The very fact that we confirm the high level of our interaction and talk about the need for its development, in my opinion, is of great importance, for contemporary global relations, for Russian-Chinese relations", he said.

Putin said that he believes Trump is a "thoughtful person" who can listen and respond to meaningful arguments. "It's time to stop that chatter and deal with real issues".
