A young girl in the United Kingdom has been sent to rehab after her parents claim she became so addicted to a video game she refused to stop playing, even to use the bathroom.

When they asked their daughter what was wrong, she turned "unusually argumentative and aggressive". "She was so hooked on the game she wouldn't even go to the toilet", said Carol.

The girl went on a 10-hour binge of the hit game and allegedly hit her dad in the face when he tried to take away her Xbox. According to The Sun, Fornite has 40 million downloads since its launch, last July.

Fortnite might be free-to-play, but many gamers opt to spend their cash for optional in-game items to give their characters unique looks and dances.

Her parents also noticed payments totalling more than £50 a month were being paid to Microsoft from their credit card. However, the gravity of the situation came to the forefront when the father found her sitting on an urine-soaked cushion while playing the game. Of course we were furious and confiscated her Xbox.

When they questioned her, the girl broke down and told them everything.

Addictions counsellor Steve Pope, who treated the nine-year-old, said he had been contacted by parents of children as young as eight about possible Fortnite addictions.
