Kane: England have been practising penalties

England manager Gareth Southgate has insisted that club rivalries will not taint his side's hopes of enjoying a successful World Cup campaign in Russian Federation.

"The aim is to be aggressive and courageous in possession", Kane told British media.

He added: "In an idealistic world people would say to walk off the pitch but that means we would be thrown out of the tournament, which. many people would agree with. We have personal support, team support and official protocol in place".

Kane, who will captain his country at the tournament, acknowledged that England have been "passive" and have focused too much on avoiding defeat in previous tournaments.

"There will be tough moments, and ups and downs".

"If we do all of those things and we play with a smile on our face, enjoy our football, enjoy being in a tournament, then I think we will get results".

We've counted down the weeks and now only days remain before England take to the field at the 2018 World Cup.

"Personally, that (scoring) record is something I want to change, and hopefully will this summer", said Kane.

"I've talked before about there being a disconnect between the supporters and the team and I've felt that there's different ways to bridge that".

"It is hard to look beyond the World Cup", said Kane.

"It's the one competition that everybody dreams of winning".

"I think a lot has been said about staying in cliques and teams staying in teams, but I've not seen that at all here".

For instance, at a recently media day, all 23 players in the World Cup squad were available for journalists to speak to freely.

England are basing themselves near St Petersburg during the World Cup, which starts later this week, and the golfers among Southgate's squad will get the chance to play The Golf Club Dunes, which charges £33 for 18 holes.
