Larry Kudlow Has Suffered a Heart Attack

The president's top economic adviser has suffered a heart attack, President Trump said.

President Donald Trump's chief economic adviser Larry Kudlow has suffered a heart attack. "He is now in Walter Reed Medical Center", said the message sent minutes before he was scheduled to meet Kim Jong-un, the North Korean leader, in Singapore.

In the 1980s, he served as White House budget director under President Ronald Reagan and is still a champion of that era's conservative, supply-side economics, which calls for cutting taxes to boost growth - an ideology the Trump administration has emphatically embraced.

Mr. Kudlow's condition was not immediately clear.

Kudlow's wife, Judith Kudlow, told The Washington Post in a brief conversation on Monday evening that Kudlow was doing well and recovering. The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center is in suburban Maryland.

Kudlow's description of events was contested by reporters who covered Trudeau's news conference.

Kudlow, 70, joined Team Trump in mid-March, coming from CNBC.

"He made an error", Kudlow said.

He has acknowledged ups and downs in his life, having been addicted to drugs and alcohol before getting sober more than 20 years ago. Before joining the White House, he had vigorously opposed the protectionist trade agenda that Trump promoted, but he became a forceful advocate for Trump's policies since joining the administration. The month he was tapped for the White House job, he co-authored an article that argued such tariffs were akin to sanctions on the United States itself.
