Man Arrested Over Deadly Japan Stabbing Spree

Police said, they apprehended the 22-year old man, after the train made an unscheduled stop at Odawara station following an emergency call.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of killing a passenger and injuring two in a knife attack on a bullet train.

Police arrested the 22-year-old unemployed suspect on suspicion of attempted murder, a police spokesman said.

The attack occurred at about 9:50 pm, soon after the Tokaido Shinkansen line train left Tokyo Station. The other two victims are both women, according to local media.

The attack occurred on Saturday night, when the train operated by Central Japan Railway was traveling west in Kanagawa Prefecture, south of Tokyo. Police are continuing to investigate his motives, Oiye said. "We would like to be left alone for now".

The suspect told investigators that he felt "frustrated and wanted to kill someone", public broadcaster NHK said, adding that he used at least two knives. The train was crowded with women thought to have attended an event.

Afterward, witnesses said some of the passengers were crying as they fled to the other coaches, shouting "Just keep going ahead", and "He has a knife!" She had been calling his mobile phone recently but could not reach him. A female passenger was also killed and more than 20 people were injured as the fire and smoke spread throughout the carriages.

According to the Kanagawa prefectural police and other sources, three passengers on the train were attacked.
