Resident Evil 2 Remake Revealed, January 2019 Release Date Confirmed

Resident Evil 2 Remake Revealed, January 2019 Release Date Confirmed

In the Resident Evil 2 remake, players will have an over-the-shoulder camera like Resident Evil 4, as opposed to the fixed camera angles seen in the original game.

We've known that the Resident Evil 2 remake has been in development for a few years now, but fans had no idea what direction the game was taking until Sony unveiled it at E3 2018. At the time, Resident Evil 2 was a phenom, becoming one of the biggest video game sellers in 1998 and was the best-selling game on Sony's first console. It looks as though players will find themselves once again facing off against hordes of zombies in the streets of Raccoon City, while also contending with the likes of Lickers, Tyrants, and other monstrosities. That last one seems to indicate that this game will echo some of the major story beats of the original Resident Evil 2, but it's hard to say for sure how closely this game will follow the plot of the original.

Resident Evil 2 introduced characters who would go on to become some of the most iconic and beloved heroes in Capcom's history: rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield, who are thrust together by a disastrous outbreak in Raccoon City that transformed its population into deadly zombies. Both Leon and Claire have their own separately playable campaigns, allowing players to see the story from both characters' perspective. The remake of the title will be different, switching to a new modern third-person perspective.

As you might have noticed from the reveal trailer, Resident Evil 2 is made in the same engine as the 2017 release of Resident Evil VII.
