Lesbian couple booted out of Uber for kissing on the backseat

The couple, who say they had been drinking but weren't drunk, recorded a cellphone video showing the driver, 35-year-old Ahmed Elbotari, booting them from his auto.

As they were crossing the Manhattan bridge, Iovine said the couple leaned over to share a quick kiss.

"Yeah, it's illegal", the driver said. "We don't get out there much and march in the parade", Iovine says.

One of the outraged women then questions the driver, saying, "What are you f***ing talking about?"

"It's 2018 in New York City and this isn't the way we live any more". "My girlfriend started laughing", Iovine told the tabloid.

Iovine and Pichl were refunded the $22 for the ride, they told ABC News, but they are now apprehensive about using the ride-hailing service. "But I think this has inspired us to get our voice out there more and get out there to celebrate everything this community has done, (what) we have to offer as human beings and the rights that we deserve".

A Taxi and Limousine Commission spokesman calls the driver's behavior "ridiculous".

Video footage shows the moment the man informs the pair that kissing in the back of the vehicle is illegal.

"You are not allowed ... it's disrespectful ... it's disrespectful". The ride was so bad, the company's CEO said drivers like the one they got "don't belong on Uber".

El Boutari told the Daily News that the couple had been acting "crudely" in his auto even before the kiss. "That's when we pulled out our phone", Pichl said. Normally private, they say they now plan to attend the city's June 24 Pride parade, which celebrates the LGBTQ community.

After the video ended, Ms Pichl said the driver "just got back in his auto and sped off".

Iovine told the Daily News that Uber did not respond to her complaint until the newspaper reported the incident.

Iovine and Emma Pichl were taking the Uber from Pig Beach Gowanus to the East Village on Saturday when Iovine gave Pichl a kiss. We paid for a full Uber ride. "We never thought something like this would happen to us".

"Uber does not tolerate any form of discrimination, and we have reached out to the rider regarding her experience", an Uber spokesperson told Newsweek in a statement. "It was a good lesson to show it can happen to you anywhere".

The Taxi and Limousine Commission is investigating.

The spokeswoman, who did not identify the driver, said the accusation is troubling and that Uber takes such reports seriously.
