Trump Wants to Pull U.S. Troops out of S.Korea

President Donald Trump's announcement that the U.S. will stop military exercises with South Korea startled Tokyo and Seoul, unsettled United States lawmakers, and took at least some parts of the Pentagon by surprise. "We're hopeful we can get it done".

All of the concessions KCNA claims Trump made are also things China has said publicly it wants.

Pyongyang canceled pre-summit talks with Seoul last month, calling the "Max Thunder" military exercise "an intentional provocation running counter to the positive political development on the Korean Peninsula".

South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Tuesday also released a statement on the DPRK-U.S. summit, describing the joint statement as "a historic event that has helped break down the last remaining Cold War legacy on earth".

Following the unprecedented summit, Trump and Kim signed a joint statement in which they agreed to craft "new" bilateral relations and make joint efforts to build a "lasting and stable" peace regime on the peninsula.

Pompeo's visit, his first trip to China after replacing Rex Tillerson as top U.S. diplomat in April, comes amid heightened tensions between Beijing and Washington over trade and China's claims to much of the South China Sea. This year, 100 aircraft participated in show of air power, including eight US F-22 stealth fighters and a number of B-52 strategic bombers based on the Pacific island of Guam. "They'd been having lots of conversations, but about all things and possibilities".

"I am. confident they understand that there will be in-depth verification", Pompeo said. "I just have to be honest with you, it's a game, it's a game, and one ought not play games with serious matters like this". "We assess positively the statement of United States president after the meeting saying that it was inappropriate to hold military exercises during the negotiations".

"The drills and the USA military stationed in South Korea play a vital role in East Asia's security", Japan's defence minister Itsunori Onodera said when asked about Trump's surprise announcement. "Trying to reason with someone like that is like trying to hand feed a shark". He says Trump "made very clear" that the condition for the freeze was that good-faith talks continue. The US secretary of state has said Washington will demand "complete, verifiable and irreversible" denuclearisation. He predicted he will have his next conversation with the North Koreans "fairly quickly after we return to our home countries" and within "the next week or so".

If confirmed, the reported deal could be seen as a concession by Trump since US officials - and the president himself - had called for the North to take swift and clear disarmament measures before receiving any rewards.

"There is no single change in the suspension of the South-U.S. joint military exercise compared to the past", Nam said.
