World's Biggest Sports Event Will Return to North America

World's Biggest Sports Event Will Return to North America

The 2026 World Cup will look a whole lot different that previous iterations of the tournament, thanks to the fact that it will be hosted by three countries - the United States, Mexico and Canada - and expanded to 48 teams for the first time.

Vancouver, which hosted the 2015 Women's World Cup final, will not be participating in the 2026 bid. The North American bid won 134 to 65, according to ESPN FC.

Hosting a World Cup is a spectacle unlike any other, and in two cycles, the world's biggest competition will return to North America following Wednesday's vote.

So Morocco concentrated its pitch on the country's undisputed passion for football, the notion that Africa deserves another World Cup after South Africa 2010, its far more compact offering and Euro-friendly time zone.

"What can really be the legacy, whether we host matches or are just involved with this in some other grand scheme, that can make sure that Baltimore and the state of Maryland have maximized the potential of being a part of the World Cup?"

Whether FIFA also extends this courtesy to Mexico and Canada - the latter a relative nonentity in global soccer that has qualified for just one World Cup in 1986 - remains to be seen.

Herdman pointed to the performance of national team member Alphonso Davies, 17, who spoke to delegates ahead of their vote Wednesday, as representative of the quality of the young talent on his team.

The 2026 installment will see the World Cup expand from 32 to 46 teams with the bloated format seeing a total of 80 games take place.

While the US and Mexico have become World Cup mainstays throughout the tournament's past, this is particularly pertinent for Canada - who has appeared in just one World Cup (1986). It was all for wearing that jersey, to represent my country and get us to a World Cup.

Raptors assistant Nurse promoted to head coach
He joined the Raptors organization in 2013 and has served as an assistant on the staff alongside Dwane Casey since then. That's the biggest thing. "We have to know everything the other team is doing and really work hard and grind it out".

Greece, Macedonia reach deal to end name dispute
Zaev said resolving the longstanding issue would open Macedonia's access to North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and the EU. The dispute has poisoned relations between the two neighbors since Macedonia's independence from Yugoslavia in 1991.

Dialogue with Trump could be 'constructive': Putin
Canada was swift to reject the idea. "The other countries of the G6 are a larger market than the American market", Mr Macron said. Mr Macron - who has cultivated a close relationship with Mr Trump over recent months - stressed that the USA was isolated.

Peskov said the list of foreign guests "who will share with us the joy of the World Cup" is being updated.

They warned "the amount of new infrastructure required for the Morocco 2026 bid to become reality can not be overstated".

One has to think all three will receive an automatic pass into the tournament.

Edmonton, Toronto and Montreal are in the running to be among the 16 host cities.

FIFA's hosting selection process was revamped in the wake of recent scandals enveloping the world governing body of soccer.

"We expect record profits for Federation Internationale de Football Association of (US)$11 billion", said Cordeiro, perhaps hitting the key button.

In rating the risk assessment of both bidders, with grades of low-, medium- and high-risk, FIFA's own bid evaluation report gave Morocco three high-risk grades (stadiums, accommodation, and accommodation and transport), 10 medium and seven low.

Both bids made their final appeals to UEFA voters in Moscow on Tuesday, with Morocco and United expected to get a vast show of support from their respective confederations.
