Federal Bureau of Investigation agent who fired gun after backflip charged with assault

An FBI agent accused of accidentally firing a gun as he danced at a bar has been charged with second-degree assault. This is following a recent incident where his weapon fell and was discharged on the dance floor at Denver's Mile High Spirits Distillery and Tasting Bar.

In the video described by the Denver Post, Bishop did a backflip in the center of a circle of people, and his gun fell from its holster. When he went to grab it, the firearm went off and shot another customer leaving them with a serious but non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower leg.

"If an additional charge needs to be filed after further evidence is received, we can file those charges then".

Denver officials said additional charges were possible pending the results of a blood-alcohol-content analysis, which could take another week.

Denver District Attorney Beth McCann charged 29-year-old Chase Bishop on Tuesday after he turned himself in to the sheriff's department. He was taken to the Denver Police Department headquarters and later released to an Federal Bureau of Investigation supervisor.

As for Agent Bishop, if it turns out he was intoxicated at the time of the accident he'll be fired.
