Five South Korean women repatriated after causing trouble during Trump-Kim summit

Questions about perceived gaps in the joint statement signed by President Trump and Kim Jong Un are "insulting and ridiculous and frankly ludicrous", Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters Wednesday in Seoul, where he is briefing South Korea on Tuesday's U.S.

Democratic critics in the United States said the agreement was short on detail and the Republican president had made too many concessions to Kim, whose country is under U.N. sanctions for its nuclear and weapons programmes and is widely condemned for human rights abuses.

The agreement signed Tuesday by Trump and Kim also included provisions for future negotiations, hinting at the possibility of more meetings between the USA and North Korean leaders. It's possible North Korean officials will seek a firm commitment from the South on stopping its military drills with the United States. But big, joint U.S.

"We had pretty much finished, and I said, 'Would you do me a favor?"

Another headache for USA officials in Japan: The agreement says nothing about North Korean short- and medium-range missile tests and development, a particular concern for Japan, located a chip shot away from North Korea. Despite President Trump saying they would remain in place.

But he said that was no longer the case, and everyone can "sleep well tonight".

Fresh off his effusive praise of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, President Donald Trump has now declared that America's true No. 1 enemy is its free press.

He characterized them as 'very expensive, ' however, and portrayed their end as an economic decision rather than a negotiated concession that the US had previously said it wouldn't budge on.

North Korea is believed to possess more than 50 nuclear warheads, with its atomic program spread across more than 100 sites constructed over decades to evade worldwide inspections.

Pompeo faced immediate questioning from his traveling press about the content of the agreement with North Korea.

"I am. confident they understand that there will be in-depth verification", Pompeo said, adding that further USA talks with North Korea on how and when it will end its nuclear program will resume "sometime in the next week".

The second reference stated: "Kim Jong-un said in order to achieve peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula and realise its denuclearisation, the two countries should commit themselves to refraining from antagonising with each other out of mutual understanding, and take legal and institutional steps to guarantee it".

The president was also "unequivocal" with Kim about the need to return abductees from Japan seized by the North in the 1970s and 1980s, Pompeo said at the news conference.

And given the size and scope of Pyongyang's program, will Trump also demand an agreement with them include the removal of all nuclear weapons material, including research, development, and raw materials, and does not include any "sunset clauses" on the resumption of enrichment work?

"Let me assure you that "complete" encompasses verifiable in the minds of everyone concerned", Pompeo said. Trump's announcement appeared to catch the Pentagon and officials in Seoul off guard, and some South Koreans were alarmed. "So he's a very smart guy, he's a great negotiator, but I think we understand each other".

This is not the first time Trump has declared the news media an "enemy" of the United States, as past year he said that networks that covered him critically were an "enemy of the people".

The Trump administration is set to cancel the next joint military exercise on the Korean Peninsula scheduled for August, a report said on Wednesday.
