Kawhi Leonard has to convince Spurs to offer him supermax contract

Kawhi Leonard has to convince Spurs to offer him supermax contract

However, San Antonio apparently turned down the offer and didn't counter it.

Head coach Gregg Popovich and Leonard are expected to meet "sooner than later" to see if repairs can be made to the relationship between the Spurs and their franchise player following a dramatic 2017-18 season.

Most believe that the Spurs will offer Leonard that type of money, but Wojnarowski thinks that given the way San Antonio does things, they might want to see him on the court first.

"I'm told that Leonard and his camp would like to be offered it and would like to start to talk about that kind of a future with San Antonio, but so much has gone on in the past year - Leonard taking his medical outside of the team, the disconnect between him and the organization over the last several months".

United Nations condemns excessive Israeli force against Palestinians
Israeli forces have killed more than 120 Palestinians since 30 March, according to a United Nations tally. Haley condemned the adopted resolution as " morally bankrupt ".

It wouldn't be insane if the Spurs preferred Leonard play next season before putting that offer on the table, but with that avenue comes the risk of losing a top-five player for nothing. No details of precisely what the team offered the Spurs were provided. Teams can give one such contract out, and Leonard would be an obvious choice for it in San Antonio if not for all the drama surrounding his quad injury this past season. The proposed deal works on ESPN's NBA Trade Machine.

If the Celtics are to make an offer for Leonard, Wojnarowski warns that they must do so in a similarly cautious fashion as the trade that landed them Irving last summer. The addition of Love will keep them competitive in the Western Conference, and there is a possibility that playing under Coach Gregg Popovich could help him bring back the "Minnesota Love".

Leonard could become an unrestricted free agent next summer where the Spurs could lose him without getting anything in return. Family and winning are James' priorities in his next controversial decision.
