Russian women should not sleep with World Cup guests, warns MP

A member of parliament in Russian Federation on Wednesday asked the country's women not to have sex with foreign fans arriving for the World Cup as they would risk becoming single mothers to mixed-race children, Reuters reported.

Tamara Pletnyova, a 70-year-old Communist who leads the lower house's family, women and children body, told Govorit Moskva radio she hoped women would not date visiting fans and get pregnant. "These children then suffer and they suffered even in Soviet times", she said, suggesting the children of interracial couples had the worst experience.

"I know that children suffer if they are abandoned and they are left here with the mother", Pletnyova.

The Family, Women and Children Affairs Committee chairwoman warned that "nothing good will come out of. the inappropriate behavior of Russian women".

She said that children risked being "abandoned and just left with their mother" or alternatively being taken overseas by their fathers, urging women to marry "Russian citizens". We should bear our own children. "They've suffered in the past, since the Soviet period". "I'm not a nationalist, but still", she added. "Then they come to me in the committee, these crying girls, because the child has been shipped away, taken and so on".

'I wonder what Pletnyova will say when she's reminded of Say No to Racism, ' wrote radio journalist Tatyana Felgenhauer on Twitter, in reference to FIFA's long-running anti-racism campaign.

A Russian lawmaker has told local women to keep away from foreigners during the World Cup and instead marry Russian men.

Pletnyova previously criticised the #MeToo campaign against sexual harassment, tentatively spreading in Russian Federation.
