Trump nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

Trump nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

Two Norwegian lawmakers officially nominated President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize following his historic summit with Kim Jong Un; praising Trump for his ability to bring the North Korean leader to the negotiating table. The prizes are administered by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, appointed by Norway's parliament. It is unclear whether he was nominated for this year's prize.

The lawmakers, Christian Tybring-Gjedde and Per-Willy Amundsen, are from the country's Progress Party, a right-leaning libertarian party.

The two lawmakers called Trump's actions regarding North Korea "historic", with the potential "to ensure world peace in the future" in statements to Norwegian state broadcaster NRK.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un met with Trump for a summit Tuesday in Singapore, where they signed an agreement to work together towards peace and denuclearization.

Now that the Trump-Kim summit has come to a successful end, people have started guessing whether this breakthrough in relations between the U.S. and DPRK will bring its leaders the Nobel Peace Prize. So while Trump and Kim could be among the 330 nominees for 2018, an award linked to North Korea may be more likely in 2019.

Canada rallies to Trudeau after Trump's insult
Trump went on to say that the USA gets "unfairly clobbered" on trade despite "protecting Europe at great financial loss". Canada's House of Commons Monday condemned the personal attacks on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau by U.S.

Trump himself has mused about earning the Nobel saying "everyone thinks so, but I would never say it", when asked about the possibility of the prize last month.

Former recipients have included Martin Luther King Jr., Mother Teresa, Malala Yousafzai, Nelson Mandela, and Trump's predecessor, Barack Obama.

Trump sat down with Kim on Tuesday for the first meeting between a sitting USA president and North Korean leader in history.

The North Korean situation has been rocky as it has unfolded, but there has been significant progress. In return, Trump promised to end "war games", or joint military exercises, with South Korea.
