Britain stops short of criticising USA immigration policy

Speculation has been growing that Trump's visit would include meeting the Queen after it emerged Windsor Castle could be closed to the public on the day of his visit, however Buckingham Palace have yet to confirm whether this is the case.

She confirmed that Donald Trump would still be welcomed to the United Kingdom as part of a planned visit later this year, and said she would raise her objections with the US President among a "range of issues".

Ahead of the president's visit to the UK in July, the Prime Minister said the nature of the "special" relationship with the United States meant "when we disagree with what they are doing, we say so". "He has to see the British head of state", adding that other details of the trip had not been finalized.

Asked if Trump would meet the queen during what has been described as a working visit, US Ambassador Woody Johnson said: "Yes".

A spokeswoman for Buckingham Palace declined to comment.

British Prime Minister Theresa May confirmed Wednesday that she is also planning to meet with Trump next month, even as she condemned his administration's policy of separating migrant families along the U.S. -Mexico border.

PM May first invited the U.S. leader for a state visit following her trip to the White House in January 2017.

But May's spokesman stopped short of directly criticising the USA administration ahead of Trump's visit, nor would he confirm that May would raise the issue during the trip.

Trump has yet to visit Britain in any capacity since his election.

She rebuked him past year after he retweeted videos from a far-right group, and has also said he was wrong to criticise London mayor Sadiq Khan after the London Bridge attack last June.

Many have called for the PM to cancel the President's trip altogether, but that seems highly unlikely. She never met Lyndon Johnson.
