Rangers ready for Europa League opener, says Steven Gerrard

Rangers ready for Europa League opener, says Steven Gerrard

Jamie Murphy, Alfredo Morelos and Zak Rudden got the other goals as Gerrard made his Ibrox bow.

Rangers face Macedonian outfit Shkupi in the first leg of their Europa League first round qualifier on Thursday.

"We are ready for the challenge", said Gerrard, right.

"The expectation and pressure will be completely different to today".

But Gerrard is confident they are ready and can avoid the embarrassment of last season's exit to Progres Niederkorn. Yeah, there were 40,000 here, which was fantastic for a friendly against Bury, so there was a slight bit of pressure, especially for the new players getting judged for the first time. The most pleasing thing for me was the clean sheet, we've spoken about how important it is to be a hard team to play against.

Gerrard is keen to add Sadiq to bolster his attacking options, and he hinted there could be movement on a deal in the near future.

England will not 'get a better chance to make World Cup final'
England's World Cup quarter-final against Sweden could be played in front of as many as 10,000 empty seats in Samara. It was a sign of what was to come - direct balls, long throws, pressing - but it didn't trouble England .

Steven Gerrard will do more business in the coming weeks as he looks to finalise his Rangers squad.

Following reports that Celtic and Rangers are set to do battle for a season-long loan deal for Liverpool winger Harry Wilson, it's emerged that a rather unique transfer agreement has been put in place between Steven Gerrard and Jurgen Klopp.

Steven Gerrard admitted last month that he would have to have a hard conversation with Allan, Wes Foderingham or Jak Alnwick at some point and it was clear that someone was going to be left unhappy.

At some point, one of them won't be around because three top goalies don't go into one position.

"At the moment he is still a Roma player but it has been well documented that I am a fan, but it's just a case of watch this space", he said. There's nothing I can do about that.

It is a hard decision to make but it is an important one with the Europa League game coming up next Thursday.
