Graham blames China for North Korea's condemnation of USA talks

North Korea calls talks with the United States "regrettable" while Secretary of State Pompeo says the discussions were productive; former USA ambassador to the U.N. Bill Richardson weighs in on 'Sunday Morning Futures'. "In other words, after USA troops are withdrawn and U.S". State department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said no meeting with Kim had been planned. And, the promised remains have yet to be delivered.

"There will be a verification connected to the complete denuclearisation, it's what President Trump and Chairman Kim both agreed to", he added.

However, following the stinging commentary from the North, he allowed that the goal of denuclearization would be hard and that much work remains.

"The issues the US side insisted on at the talks are all roots of troubles, which the previous administrations also had insisted on to disrupt the dialogue processes, stoke the distrust and increase the danger of war", the statement read.

Speaking in Tokyo after holding meetings in Pyongyang, Pompeo said Washington would continue enforcing sanctions until North Korea carried out "fully verified final denuclearisation".

The North's spokesman said: "We expected that the US side would come with productive measures conducive to building trust in line with the spirit of the North-US summit and (we) considered providing something that would correspond to them".

"However, the attitude and stance the United States showed in the first high-level meeting (between the countries) was no doubt regrettable".

'Our expectations and hopes were so naive it could be called foolish'.

Leaked U.S. intelligence findings have concluded that North Korea does not intend to give up its nuclear program completely. Trump in turn offered security guarantees to Pyongyang and pledged a halt to large-scale military drills with South Korea.

In criticizing the talks with Pompeo, however, it carefully avoided attacking Trump personally, saying "we wholly maintain our trust toward President Trump, ' but stressed that Washington must not allow 'headwinds" against the 'wills of the leaders'.

Pompeo, who spoke with Trump, national security adviser John Bolton and White House chief of staff John Kelly by secure phone before starting Saturday's session, replied that he "slept just fine".

America's top diplomat was speaking in Tokyo, where he had met with the foreign ministers of Japan and South Korea as well as Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to discuss the progress made during his trip to North Korea.

Speculation has been rife that the US might have eased its demand for the North because it recently started calling for "the final, fully verified denuclearization (FFVD)" of North Korea, instead of CVID, a key phrase jointly used by the United States, South Korea and Japan.

However, the president has since renewed sanctions on North Korea, while USA intelligence officials have said there is evidence North Korea continues to upgrade the infrastructure for its nuclear and missile programmes. "I am determined to achieve the commitment that President Trump made and I am counting on Chairman Kim to be determined to follow through on the commitment that he made", Pompeo said.

"I think we made progress in every element of our discussions", he added.

But the North Korean Foreign Ministry complained Saturday that Pompeo's team had "never mentioned the issue of establishing a peace regime on the Korean peninsula" while they were in Pyongyang.

Indeed, the wording of North Korea's statement may also suggest that it viewed the four items in the Trump-Kim agreement as a schedule. "And when you want it bad, you get it bad". "The North Koreans understand that and have not challenged that".
