Angus Gunn joins Southampton on a permanent deal

Manchester City goalkeeper Angus Gunn is close to joining Southampton after a deal worth £13.5m was agreed, according to Sky sources.

Manchester City are insisting on a buy-back clause in their sale of Angus Gunn to Southampton.

The Saints have already added midfielder Stuart Armstrong from Celtic and winger Mohamed Elyounoussi from Basel, but Mark Hughes remains keen on new additions.

The 22-year-old impressed on loan at Norwich last term and was part of England's World Cup training camp, having been involved with the senior team for the first time last November.

Part of the Denmark squad that reached the last-16 in Russian Federation, the 25-year-old would appear a timely addition to a side yet to bring in a defender since Virgil van Dijk's world-record move to Liverpool.

Gunn, an ever-present for Norwich in the Championship last season, has been a target for Southampton, who shared the goalkeeping duties between Fraser Forster and Alex McCarthy last season.

If he completes his move, Gunn could be joined at St Mary's by Denmark global Jannik Vestergaard after Southampton agreed an £18m fee for the defender with German club Borussia Monchengladbach.

He spent last season on loan at Norwich, the former club of his father, retired Scotland goalkeeper Bryan Gunn.
