Roger Federer not concerned about start of World Cup game

The authorities at the tennis tournament have said that it will be OK to activate your phone and watch the football while in the grounds of Wimbledon, as long as you can manage to not stand up and go "F*CKING SQUARE IT DELLE JESUS CHRIST MAN ON" while someone's serving at 30-40 down.

The World Cup showpiece will take place on Sunday at 18:00 (local time), which is 16:00 BST, meaning it is likely to kick off during the men's grass-court final, which eight-time champion Federer is a heavy favourite to be a part of. England could play the final as they have reached the semi-finals.

Speaking to a group of reporters Monday morning, Richard Lewis, the club's chief executive, indicated that the prohibition would not be strictly enforced given interest in the World Cup - provided the use of the devices didn't interfere with others.

"The (football) players are going to look up in the crowd and not understand what's going on at Wimbledon".

Wimbledon officials are refusing to show any games from the World Cup on the All England Club's big screen, Reuters report, despite clashes between the championship's matches and England's games in Russian Federation.

"Saturday was a fantastic day at the championships".

"I gather it wasn't very successful because it did interrupt people's enjoyment of the tennis and what we did last Saturday actually did work very well", added Lewis.

"That's how important Wimbledon is to me and to us over here".

Said Lewis: "We want people to be able to enjoy in this modern era the fact that this is a tennis event but that there is something else very special going on".

Roger Federer has played down the prospect of a clash between the Wimbledon and World Cup finals by joking that football fans in Moscow will be distracted by the tennis. We didn't receive a single complaint from anyone who was here who felt their enjoyment of the tennis was interrupted and I'm sure it'll be the same next Sunday.

Lewis said the tournament had learnt its lesson after showing the 1996 European Championship semi-final between England and Germany, which was decided on penalties, on the big screen.
