Thailand football team won't attend World Cup final

Doctors said the 12 boys and their 25-year-old coach who were rescued from a Thai cave this week are on bed rest but are in a "good condition".

A helicopter delivered the boys and their coach to Chiang Rai Prachanukroh Hospital in Chiang Rai, the closest city to the cave complex, where the 12 boys and their coach were reunited on a dedicated floor.

"We did something nobody thought possible", Chiang Rai province acting Gov. Narongsak Osatanakorn, leader of the rescue effort, said at a celebratory news conference.

The global soccer federation, FIFA, had already invited the boys to attend the World Cup final in Russia this Sunday.

In a gesture of kindness, English soccer giants Manchester United have invited the Thai soccer team to Old Trafford to watch them play in its upcoming season.

She said his role had been "quite extraordinary" and the government planned to formally honour all the Australians who took part in the rescue.

Paul Pogba dedicated France's World Cup semi-final win against Belgium to the 12 boys who survived a harrowing ordeal trapped underground in Thailand.

They spent nine harrowing days trapped in darkness until two British divers found them, looking gaunt but otherwise offering smiles to the divers and appearing to be in remarkably good spirits. A former Thai Navy diver lost his life while on a re-supply mission inside the cave to support the rescue.

A Single Goal Sends France To The World Cup Final
FIFA boss Gianni Infantino had invited the boys' Wild Boars football team to Sunday's World Cup final last week. He's been showing us season in, season out, that he is among the best strikers in the Premier League .

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull praised the courage of the multinational rescue team, which was run by the Thai military, as "one of the most heroic and inspiring episodes of our time". But he added they can not yet have the spicy treats that many Thais like to eat.

There are still many police and soldiers around but the divers - of whom there were more than a 100 at peak time - have all gone, presumably to finally get some rest.

Two of the eight rescued so far have shown signs of a potential lung infection, but there is a hope they could honour the invite. Having completed this section, the boys are then handed over to separate, specialist rescue teams, who help assist them through the remainder of the cave, much of which they can wade through.

Families of both groups were allowed to visit them in their patient rooms but were required to wear protective clothing and remain at least two metres away to prevent disease transmission. "Great news that they made it out safely. But we will have a psychiatrist evaluate them".

They're all likely to stay the hospital for seven days due to their weakened immune systems, Chokedamrongsook said.

It was a "miracle" they had survived and an even greater one that the rescue team, including global caving experts, were able to hatch a plan to get them out alive.

President Donald Trump congratulated the Thai SEALs on Twitter.
