Donald Trump baby blimp banned from skies of Turnberry

Donald Trump has said that British people like him a lot because of his views on immigration, ahead of his first official visit to the UK. Vince Cable, the leader of the pro-EU Liberal Democrats, said, "Most of us don't think he is particularly good judge on Brexit or anything else".

Mr Smyth said he hoped the protests, and specifically the Trump baby blimp, do not upset the American public.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan, who signed off on the so-called "baby Trump" blimp, defended the decision Thursday, arguing the protests were not anti-American but emblematic of free speech.

With Trump at all times will be a White House doctor and one of five rotating military aides who carry the nuclear "football" - equipped with communication tools and a book with prepared war plans.

Trump's trip is part of a working visit and not a state visit, an invitation to which was extended to him personally by May just days after his inauguration.

Melania's day won't be spent entirely apart from her husband, as she and Donald are set to meet the queen at Windsor Castle, where they will take tea with the royal after watching a military parade.

Just before departing for Europe earlier this week, Trump ruffled feathers again by saying that the United Kingdom was in "turmoil", referring to the resignation of two prominent Cabinet ministers protesting Prime Minister May's Brexit policy.

As well as in London, protests are expected to take place in Bristol, Newcastle, Leeds, Cambridge and Cardiff after Trump arrives here on Thursday. "I think that's why Brexit happened".

But besides that, the United States president is set to avoid much of the mass protests as most of his official engagements have been planned outside London.

Labour Party legislator Paul Flynn, who has criticized Mr. Trump in Parliament, says the US leader has outraged Britons - and people around the world - with his harsh treatment of immigrants.

"There is no stronger alliance than that of our special relationship with the US and there will be no alliance more important in the years ahead", May said in a statement.

He added: "We'll see if they're still there in 10 years".

The British are usually polite to a fault - though they have been known to go off after a soccer match or once the pubs close.

Mass protests are expected to greet Donald Trump as he arrives for his first visit to Britain as president. Many will see his avoidance of London as proof he is trying to keep away from dissent, however, the USA ambassador to the UK, Woody Johnson, denied this.

But there are still plenty of detractors, as loudly demonstrated by a passenger in auto driving past the U.S. flag-adorned pub who shouted "F*** Trump", to which Mr Smyth chuckled.

In the weeks before the American president's inauguration, May sent Trump a copy of the text of Churchill's 1941 Christmas Eve radio address to Americans, delivered while the prime minister was staying with U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

The prime minister will host a gala dinner and a meeting with Trump, giving them time to talk.
