Joe Root still believes he has a T20 future despite England axe

Joe Root will "absolutely" be playing in the first game of England's three-match one-day global series against India on Thursday, according to Paul Farbrace.

England and Wales are hosting the quadrennial one-day tournament and Sharma told the media on the eve of their first ODI game at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, the series will tell them much about how they are placed in their bid to be crowned world champions for a third time. "I know it was a very different side they played against but it is a really good marker to see where we are", said Root on Wednesday. He missed one match and was then recalled for England's next assignment, a one-day tour to the Caribbean, and has not looked back since, being elevated to the Test captaincy and now sitting in the top ten of both the ODI and Test batting rankings. "He is such a big asset to all three teams and with him firing hopefully throughout this series we will see some really strong performances from him and long term for England that is a really good thing", he said. I've got to make sure I keep putting the work in and those limited opportunities I do get, keep trying to perform, keep my name as current as I can in that format. We bat normally and see where you are at 30 overs and analyse it. Series against Australia was a moral booster for the English side where the side scored world record score of 481 runs.

'At that time it was important for me to support a player who was under pressure and I would do exactly the same again, ' said Farbrace who impressed on his latest head coaching audition even though England lost the series 2-1.

England V. Croatia, Winner Will Play France
We respected them because we analysed them. "We played a high press on their backline". We're going to celebrate, to rest and then we will prepare for France.

He "fully understood" the decision to leave him out in Bristol, however, but admitted his lack of opportunities to play T20 cricket has been "difficult".

Root expressed confidence in England's ability to make things hard for Virat Kohli's side in ODIs.

"It's risky to think too far ahead", said Root, who will hope to retain his place in the ODI line-up after being dropped for the final T20 match. One thing that generally we have been good at last couple of years is assessing things early on and planning an innings from there. "It might be the case it might not but we try and win this series and do everything we can to come out of an impressive white ball summer".
