Ken Giles has choice words for A.J. Hinch

The Ken Giles Experience continues to be as wild and insane as advertised. Left hander Cionel Perez has been recalled to replace him.

The Houston Astros announced Wednesday that they have optioned reliever Ken Giles to Triple-A one day after he hurled an expletive at manager A.J. Hinch when he pulled him from a game.

Giles came in with a 4-0 lead in the top of the ninth against the A's, but allowed three straight singles to load the bases and was promptly removed for Hector Rondon.

The demotion comes as Giles' poor season continues.

After serving as the closer on the Astros' World Series-winning team a year ago, Giles has struggled mightily in 2018. He would go on to allow both of the inherited runners (plus another batter) to score, tying the game at 4 all. He promptly punched himself in the face on his way off the mound.

Giles has a 4.99 ERA this season with 12 saves and 31 strikeouts in 34 games. Giles was acquired in a trade with the Phillies before the 2016 season.

Giles was traded to the Astros in December 2015 in exchange for pitchers Vince Velasquez, Tom Eshelman, and Brett Oberholtzer, as well as outfielder Derek Fisher.
