Roger Federer Exits Wimbledon After a Nail-Biting Match Against Kevin Anderson

"It's disappointing, being up two-sets to love and having a match point". Nadal will advance to play in his sixth Wimbledon semifinal, and his first since losing in the finals in 2011.

Not only is Federer the best of all time on the Wimbledon grass, and not only is Anderson historically not great on the grass (he's never been to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon before this year), but the 32-year-old South African has never won a set off Fed-Ex anywhere.

Del Potro was the only one of the quarter-finalists in action on Tuesday as he finished off a tough four-set victory over Gilles Simon.

In the final set, Anderson won more big points than Federer lost, but the opportunities were there for the No. 1 seed and he kept letting them get away. Federer managed to return a 215kph serve, but on his next stroke, he shanked a backhand.

The second set was a closer affair, and after a service break apiece, the set had to be decided by a tiebreaker, which the 20-time grand slam victor won 7-5, to look in complete control of proceedings at two sets up.

He was stunned by Anderson in five sets but refused to blame his defeat on the fact he did not play on Centre.

Not once did Anderson panic. "It just happened to be that today wasn't the day". Anderson leveled for 7-7, 8-8, 9-9, 10-10. Co-incidentally, Federer's mother hails from the same country as Anderson. The 31-year-old, however, served up the whole range from antics to awesome shot-making. He made it to the the US Open final previous year, and he's firmly established himself as a top-10 player.

France advance to 2018 World Cup final
Croatia lost their only previous semi-final match to host France in 1998. " England has been the most impressive team so far". The pundits laid into the players, lambasting their attitude. "We've made several pieces of history.

Anderson then held the 24th game to clinch one of tennis' most famous victories. Those two played each other regularly in the junior circuits.

"I was very happy that I got off to the right start of the match, was able to take control somewhat of the game".

He can produce huge pace from the baseline as well, and he ultimately needed a combination of skills and a great deal of mental strength to reach his first Wimbledon semifinal.

The Serbian beat Kei Nishikori 6-3 3-6 6-2 6-2 to reach his first semi-final at any of the four tennis majors since the US Open in 2016. It's also the first time Anderson has knocked off Federer, the defending Wimbledon champion, in five tries. He bagged his career's third singles ATP title that year at Winston-Salem, USA. He became the first South African, since Kevin Curren in 1984 Australian Open, to make it to the final of a major. "He lost", Nadal said.

"I think in a way I've earned the right to play the quarter on Centre, we've put the request in to the organisers", Djokovic said.

Anderson stayed in the match thanks to his serving, compiling 28 aces.

It is timed for release as the anticipation crests with Roger as returning champion, 10 years after their famed 2008 Wimbledon championship - an epic match so close and so reflective of their competitive balance that, in the end, the true victor was the sport itself.
