Stormy Daniels Arrested; Lawyer Claims 'Set-Up'

In May, Trump said Daniels was paid to stop "false and extortionist accusations" she made about a sexual encounter with him.

She was booked and released early Thursday morning on a $6000 bond.

Early Thursday, Daniels' attorney, Michael Avenatti, tweeted that the arrest "was a setup & politically motivated". Avenatti said she was accused of allowing a patron to touch her while on stage in a "nonsexual manner". "Are you kidding me?" he wrote.

Avenatti went on. "This was a complete set's absurd that law enforcement resources are being spent to conduct a sting operation". "There has to be higher priorities".

In Ohio, it's illegal for anyone who isn't a family member to touch a nude or semi-nude dancer.

After her "Make America Horny Again" show, undercover officers approached Daniels and said she would be arrested for allowing the patron to touch her. Daniels was arrested by several Columbus police officers after she also allegedly fondled the breasts of female patrons and held the face of a female officer into her chest, WBNS-TV first reported.

"It reeks of desperation. We will fight all bogus charges", Avenatti tweeted.

He initially said he used his own money to pay Daniels and was not reimbursed by Trump. We also expect that she will be charged with a misdemeanor for allowing 'touching.' We will vehemently contest all charges. Avenatti said the officers present at the performance were in plain clothes.

Stormy Daniels was arrested Wednesday night over an incident at a strip club.

CNN has reached out to the Columbus Police Department for more details.

The Sirens Gentlemen's Club had posted on its website that Daniels was scheduled to perform there Wednesday and Thursday. A person who answered the phone at the strip club declined to comment.

She said she signed the agreement just before the 2016 presidential election. The White House has said Trump denies an affair happened.

Daniels, 39, filed a lawsuit against Trump and his former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, late a year ago, seeking to invalidate a nondisclosure agreement that she says barred her from speaking about the alleged affair. The payment might have violated campaign finance laws.
