Safety alerts are normally issued to foreign citizens by their embassies in times of political instability, terrorism, and natural disasters; but the US embassy in London has had to issue a "demonstration alert" on Tuesday ahead of planned protests for July 12 to 14.

The largest demonstration is expected in central London on Friday where a giant "Trump baby" balloon will fly close to Parliament after being given the go-ahead by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.

May's government has recently been shaken following at least three resignations of senior members of her cabinet - including Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and Brexit Minister David Davis, following disagreements on how to exit the EU.

The organisers behind the blimp however, said they were just "poking fun" and "hope Trump sees it".

During a press conference before departing the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit for the U.K., Trump was asked how he feels about the planned protests. "And I've spent the last eight months going all around the country, meeting people and getting their point of view of all kinds of people whether it's politicians or people working in factories.I don't feel that at all".

"When we leave the European Union we will begin to chart a new course for Britain in the world and our global alliances will be stronger than ever", May said ahead of Trump's visit.

The small gathering at a location to be confirmed in London - and at which Mr Trump is not expected to attend - is likely to be easily outnumbered by protesters involved in a series of demonstrations organised for the coming days, including the flying of a 20ft-high Trump inflatable near Parliament.

Ambassador Johnson's sentiment has been echoed by a number of residents in the north of England, who say that whether they agree with the president or not, he is worthy of respect as America's leader.

A campaign is also underway to get "American Idiot", a 2004 song by the United States punk rock band Green Day, to the top of the UK Singles Chart.

Later this evening he will choppered out again for a black-tie dinner at Blenheim Palace with Prime Minister Theresa May.

She will then head to Windsor Castle for tea with Queen Elizabeth II in the afternoon.

The two leaders are also expected to discuss Russia, Brexit and Middle East.

He also told reporters he was going through "a pretty hot spot right now with a lot of resignations" and said that out of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit, his United Kingdom visit and his meeting with Vladimir Putin on Monday, the latter may be the easiest one of them all.
