Had Damaging Information On Donald Trump, Says FBI Agent Peter Strzok

The hearing was punctuated by chaos and open yelling as Judiciary Committee Chairman Robert Goodlatte said Strzok needed to answer Republicans' questions and suggested they might recess the hearing and hold him in contempt. Democrats objected to Goodlatte's repeated attempts to get Strzok to answer.

On Thursday, Strzok had his day in the hot seat before the House judiciary and oversight committees ― whom Kimmel called "bozos in the House" and a "collection of clowns".

Ultimately Strzok responded to a question from Gowdy about the early portion of the Russian Federation investigation by defending his own work and the work of the FBI.

In one text, Page asked Strzok if Trump was going to be president.

"I am stating to you it is not my understanding that he kicked me off because of any bias that it was done based on the appearance", Strzok said.

"Mr. Strzok, you are under subpoena and required to answer the question", Goodlatte added.

Their messages were critical of then-candidate Trump.

"We have indulged this harassment [for] nine minutes", Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-N.J.), a member of the House Oversight Committee, interjected at one point during Gowdy's questioning.

In his opening statement, Strzok acknowledged that while his text message criticism was "blunt", it wasn't directed at one person or party and included jabs not only at Trump but also at Clinton and Sen.

Mysterious giant sarcophagus discovered in Egypt
They belonged to an unidentified Ancient Egyptian Princess and the head and body of a crocodile from the River Nile. Archeologists also found a large alabaster head, which may belong to the owner of the tomb.

Strzok expressed little regret for the most controversial text exchange with Page.

"My presumption [was] based on that terrible, disgusting behavior that the American population would not elect somebody demonstrating that behavior to be president of the United States", Strzok explained.

Strzok is testifying publicly on Capitol Hill for the first time since the release of a Justice Department inspector general report that heavily criticized his comments.

Strzok declined to answer a question from Republican Representative Trey Gowdy, head of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, about interviews he conducted during the FBI's Russian Federation probe, saying the agency had directed him not to discuss ongoing investigations.

But Republicans eager to undermine Mueller's investigation berated Strzok, citing the texts as evidence of partisan bias within law enforcement.

"We asked the Committee staff to explain the scope of the investigation and provide sufficient notice that would allow her to prepare, which are normal conditions for congressional committees, but these committees have not followed the normal process", Jeffress said in a statement on July 9. "No, he's not. We'll stop it".

Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) said the congressional focus on the "internal workings of the special counsel's investigation" distracts from more critical questions about Russian meddling in the 2016 election and the need to protect future USA elections from foreign influence. But the report said it found no evidence of political bias in the FBI's decision to not pursue criminal charges against Clinton.

Toward the end of his time, Gohmert criticized Strzok, saying he had spoken to Federal Bureau of Investigation agents about Strzok's conduct. Page will attend a closed-door interview on Friday with the committees. Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings, the top Democrat on the oversight panel, had aides hold up posters of everyone who has pleaded guilty in the special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.
