Liverpool close to completing Shaqiri transfer

Stoke, who are preparing to return to the Premier League at the first attempt, have been hoping to secure Liverpool's Wales winger Harry Wilson...

There has been interest in Shaqiri from a number of clubs, but Liverpool are set to win the race and will activate his release clause of around £13.75m rather than thrashing out a different fee.

The Reds have been long-time admirers of the Switzerland global, who underwent a medical earlier today before putting pen to paper on a five-year deal which will keep him at Anfield until 2023.

The 26 year old joined the club in 2015 and was signed by Mark Hughes from Italian giants Inter Milan.

The Mirror says Liverpool face competition from Lazio for Shaqiri.

The winger netted a 90th minute victor against Serbia to help Switzerland qualify for the knockout stages, but they were defeated by Sweden in the round of 16.
