Arsenal boss Unai Emery vows to restore Mesut Ozil’s confidence

Arsenal boss Unai Emery vows to restore Mesut Ozil’s confidence

Arsenal finished sixth, a staggering 37 points behind champions Manchester City.

Ozil has been criticised in Germany following the team's exit in the group stage in Russian Federation, both for his performances on the pitch and for posing for a photo with Turkey president Recep Erdogan before the tournament.

But Emery says he has big plans for Ozil, who cost the Gunners £42.5m when he signed from Real Madrid five years ago.

He said: 'We are here to help everyone and Mesut is very important.

"The national team didn't do the result they wanted, but today he's on holiday".

"I think last year was a hard year for all of the team, not only for Mesut", he said.

Chelsea sack Antonio Conte 7 hours ago
Sarri could be followed by midfielder Jorginho from Napoli, with Chelsea willing to pay £50m, plus £7m in bonuses, for the pair. Conte has managed Chelsea for the last two seasons, winning a Premier League title and an FA Cup in his time there.

Trump ratchets up 'fake news' rally cry overseas during United Kingdom visit
He directly condemned the president's use of the term "fake news" to inaccurately denigrate coverage he doesn't like. Trump looked back over his shoulder and gave Acosta the shortest sound bite in presidential history.

"I know this player here is important for the supporters and grew up here in Arsenal but I don't give him one place in the starting XI and it is for that [reason] he chose to leave here and I respect also this".

Opening up on that conversation, Emery said: "It was a tactical, technical decision".

The Spanish manager however revealed that the gunners could still be open to a move for another player in this summer transfer window if the right opportunity comes so the gooners hope that the Arsenal team signs Sevilla midfielder Steven N'Zonzi. "They finished sixth in the Premier League - not the position we want".

The Germany midfielder signed a new contract at the Emirates Stadium in January and despite missing the last three games of Arsene Wenger's Gunners' reign, he was fit to play for his country during their disappointing World Cup campaign that saw them finish bottom of their group in Russian Federation.

"For me, in all my career, I want to work with an experienced person [who is] a club man".

"The conversation with Wilshere was a very good conversation, very directly together. And I am very, very happy with him".
