Sharif loyalists arrested as former PM returns to appeal conviction

According to Plan C, in the event of bad weather given the forecast for heavy rain on Friday, the former prime minister's plane will land at Allama Iqbal International Airport according to the flight schedule, and Sharif and Maryam will be taken to Kot Lakhpat jail.

Earlier, it was reported that the Etihad Airways flight would be diverted to Islamabad after workers of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz clashed with police in Lahore. "It is not easy to leave my wife on a ventilator in a hospital but I am returning along with my daughter to play our role to rid of this slavery", several media reports quoted, Nawaz, as speaking at a party conference in the ballroom of the Grosvenor House Hotel in central London's Mayfair district.

"The authorities have ordered the police to help the National Accountability Bureau in arresting Sharif and his daughter when they arrive here".

Sharif reportedly refused to sit in the vehicle of the Rangers to get to the airport terminal. Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials took their passport for immigration.

Sharif's son-in-law is serving a one-year prison sentence on the same charge, which stems from the purchase of luxury apartments in the United Kingdom that the court said were bought with illegally acquired money.

Sahrif and Maryam were later sent on a special private plane bound for Islamabad International Airport.

NAB arranged two helicopters expected to take the father and daughter duo to Adiala jail.

The Metro Bus service in the city also remained suspended.

Imran said that neither Nawaz Sharif or Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari can eliminate corruption, and both have only indebted the nation with exorbitantant foreign loans.

The provincial government had beefed up security ahead of Sharif's arrival in Lahore, and detained scores of protesters in their bid to deter massive gatherings near the airport, officials said.

Barbed wire was strung across some roads leading to the Lahore airport on Friday and barricades were positioned at the roadside ready to close off main boulevards should crowds start to gather.

Both Sharif, 68, and Maryam, 44, have been convicted by an accountability court for 10 and 7 years imprisonment respectively.

"The country is at a critical juncture right now".

"I have done what I could".

Sharif, a three-time prime minister, was sentenced to 10 years in prison and a $10.5m fine, while his daughter was given a seven-year sentence and $2.6m fine.

"What Pakistan has to do is follow China's example where they lift people out of poverty", Khan said in the interview in a private jet after a long night of campaigning in Punjab province. They have been been convicted in the Avenfield corruption case.

Sharif has denounced the verdict as politically motivated. Many PML-N lawmakers have also defected to Khan's party.

He also used the opportunity to again criticise Pakistan's powerful military, which has ruled the country directly or indirectly for most of its 71-year history, saying Pakistan now has a "state above the state".
