The Dead Don't Die: Jim Jarmusch Zombie Film Stars Bill Murray

So, this is definitely not a quirky zombie film, and while we won't get the Bill Murray zombie role that everyone wants to see, it's still a zombie movie that resurrects an always-promising director-actor collaboration from the dead. The zombie movie, which is now being filmed, stars Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Selena Gomez, Tilda Swinton, Steve Buscemi, and Chloe Sevigny.

Focus Features, who is producing and distributing the film in partnership with Universal Pictures International, announced the beginning of production on Friday, noting this is their third Jarmusch film after working with the auteur on Broken Flowers (2005) and The Limits of Our Control (2009). It's titled The Dead Don't Die, and it shoots over the summer. The main cast members of The Dead Don't Die have all starred in Jarmusch films before, including Bill Murray (Broken Flowers), Adam Driver (Paterson), Chloë Sevigny (Broken Flowers), Tilda Swinton (Only Lovers Left Alive, Broken Flowers), and Steve Buscemi (Mystery Train). Brace yourself: "It's a zombie movie", Murray shared with That would include Murray's delightful, java-gulping appearance within the Coffee and Cigarettes vignettes and his criminally underrated turn as a chronic bachelor in Broken Flowers. Murray also teased that Daniel Craig and Rosie Perez were in the movie, and that he would not be playing a zombie (sorry, Zombieland fans).

For deep cut cinephiles, The Dead Don't Die will probably ring a bell, as it was also the title of Curtis Harrington's '75 horror-noir period piece that showcased a '30s sailor (George Hamilton) who connects his brother's wrongful execution to a madman's army of zombies. "But, no, I will not play a zombie".

The rumors about the film were confirmed recently when the Daily Mail posted photographs of Selena Gomez on the set of the film wearing a bloody T-shirt. No release date is set, but Jarmusch is no stranger to the Cannes, so it wouldn't be surprising if it ended up on the 2019 slate.
