Wimbledon: Serena Williams claims her tenth final and makes history

That argument would get much stronger should she win her third career major-against Serena Williams at Wimbledon nonetheless-on Saturday.

After giving birth to daughter Olympia last September, Williams was treated for blood clots.

That would make her the first mother to lift the Venus Rosewater Dish since Evonne Goolagong in 1980.

Serena Williams is not focused on simply matching and breaking Margaret Court's all-time Grand Slam record - she wants to smash it.

I couldn't even walk to my mailbox, so it's definitely not normal for me to be in a Wimbledon final.

The 36-year-old's pregnancy ended with an extremely hard delivery that left her needing several operations to prevent life-threatening blood clots.

"It's no secret I had a super tough delivery".

Serena Williams admits she's been surprised by her march to the Wimbledon final after only playing four tournaments since returning to the court.

"I can't speak for Serena but I can speak for being a champion on some level, and this isn't a human rights issue, there should be a right".

"Serena is the one who you want to play, who you want to get the experience from", said the German, whose previous five visits to the All England Club had ended in first-round defeats.

"Because I have Olympia". I'm enjoying every moment.

But the seven-time Wimbledon is not merely planning on matching the Aussie's 24-Slam haul and insists she won't "limit" herself by setting a finite target.

She's been wearing compression leggings during her matches as a precaution and says she remains nervous.

But against Williams, who hit the fewest unforced errors among the four remaining players before the semifinals, she had a mountain to climb.

She arrives in her 30th Grand Slam final - her 10th at Wimbledon on a 20-match winning run on the lawns of south-west London.

She was off the tour for more than a year after her Australian Open title in January 2017 _ won while she was pregnant, she later revealed.

Kerber, in contrast, bides her time, working the back of the court to get everything back over the net, often kneeling to get low enough to reach shots.

"Seeing her back, it's great", said Kerber, who has lost six of eight previous matches against Williams.

"It's very impressive. I haven't even been to the gym, let alone played tennis".

"She is clearly a really good grass-court player". "I honestly felt I would have done better in some of the earlier tournaments". "I think she can win [Wimbledon]", he told us last week. "It's just a number".

All of the time away pushed someone who's spent more than 300 weeks ranked No 1 down the rankings - she began Wimbledon at 181st, but was seeded 25th on account of her past success - and no one could quite be sure how the American would fare over these two weeks. "I have to be ready for the match of my life".

The 11th seed saved a break point in game six before breaking Ostapenko's serve in the next game. The 30-year-old has bounced back from a bad 2017 and is close to the form that brought her the Australian and US Open titles two years ago.
