Kansas City police kill suspect who shot three officers

"They encountered a suspect who fired on officers with a rifle", police said in the tweets. On the same lines, we are equally disheartened hearing about the three officers who were shot in pursuit.

Sharath Koppu had been shot dead by the suspect at J's Fish and Chicken Market, 54th street and Prospect Avenue on July 6.

Graduated from Vasavi Engineering College in Hyderabad, Sharath had moved to the US US in January this year to pursue masters degree at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and was working as a cashier in a restaurant.

The police said they only believe there is one shooter and they are working to take that suspect into custody at the scene of the standoff.

Police spokesman Jacob Becchina said Sunday (July 15) that the officers' conditions aren't available.

The Indian Association of Kansas City praised the police for pursuing Koppu's shooting diligently and that "there is some closure" with the person of interest's death.

"An additional (3rd officer) was struck by gunfire and was taken to the hospital", KCPD reported on Twitter. The suspect in those shootings is dead. The third officer was injured and one suspect was detained as the primary suspect fled again.

The investigation is ongoing. A KCPD spokesperson stated that two of the officers shot with a rifle earlier in the day were undercover at the time of the shooting.

Officers are also searching for the suspect in the 3000 block of Bellaire. Their condition is unknown at this time.
