Amazon Prime Day Problems: Site Crashes As Shoppers Search For Deals

The self-dubbed "Black Friday in July" known as Amazon Prime Day kicks off on July 16th with a host of incredible deals and steals.

"Some customers are having difficulty shopping, and we're working to resolve this issue quickly", Amazon said Monday on Twitter, adding that "many are shopping successfully". We're not certain this is due to the same overload, but it does seem odd.

Amazon finally responded to reports the site was crashing at 5:00 p.m. ET (two hours after it began experiencing problems), but was still touting discounts and boasting that it had already sold more products during the first hour of this year's event than the first hour of Prime Day 2017. Thousands more Amazon employees in Germany are expected to walk off the job Tuesday, the second day of the 36-hour sale, for similar reasons.

Prime Day, created by Amazon in 2015 for its 20th anniversary, has inspired other companies like Wayfair to invent their own shopping holidays. Workers in Spain are out on a three-day strike, meanwhile, while in Poland they are staging a work to rule, Verdi said. "Unless this is way beyond their wildest expectations, it's just odd".

Shoppers experienced everything from the main Prime Day homepage failing to launch to product searches returning zero items or product links leading to error pages.

Maybe I should put a picture of her from the film and send out a loud Happy Birthday wherever she is", Shah Rukh tweeted. The actress is holidaying in a small town in England with her sister and is due to return to her work life on July 18.

Donald Trump denies collusion, says Russian Federation probe 'a disaster' for US
Browder, an outspoken Putin critic, was a driving force behind a USA law targeting Russian officials over human rights abuses. After Trump and Putin exited the stage, the room erupted into chatter.

Even Amazon Prime's video service spent the day stuttering.

Updates with more info on Feedvisor's estimates in the fourth paragraph. Amazon's rising share price added around $50bn to Bezos' worth over the past year and he's now worth more than Bill Gates was at the peak of his wealth in 1999, which would be around $149bn in inflation-adjusted dollars.

Shoppers found an outlet in venting on social media.

Unlike many other sites, we have chosen not to give too much prominence to Prime Day. And Kodali said Amazon has plenty of time to salvage the day.
