Florida man shot and killed over parking spot

Florida man shot and killed over parking spot

Surveillance video in the parking lot of a Circle A Food Store shows Drejka arguing with 24-year-old Britany Jacobs, who was sitting in her parked auto, which was parked in a handicap space, ABC News reports.

Prior to Gualtieri's announcement Friday, Jacobs told the newspaper that McGlockton died from a "wrongful death" as a result of Drejka's actions. Drejka then pulls out a gun and shoots McGlockton in the chest. So she sent McGlockton and their 5-year-old into a Circle A in Clearwater, Fla., for snacks and drinks while she rested in the parked vehicle - or at least tried to. McGlockton ran back into the store where his five-year-old son was standing at the front door, watching the entire incident happen right before his eyes.

McGlockton stumbled into the store covered in blood after the shooting, Jacobs' told the Times.

The store owner said that Drejka has a history of assaulting people in the very parking lot the shooting took place.

The alleged shooter, Michael Drejka, 47, approached the victim's 24-year-old girlfriend and began arguing with her after she pulled into the disabled spot at a Circle A Food Store in unincorporated Clearwater, witnesses told detectives. Drejka frequently visited the store and was angry over her use of the parking spot without a legal permit, Gualtieri said.

Florida cops won’t charge man in shocking parking lot shooting over state’s ‘stand your ground’ law

Sheriff Gualtieri said the sheriff's office doesn't make the law, they just enforce it.

"He's not too good", Jacobs said of the boy. "It comes and goes, but he knows he (his father) is dead". Police say the argument became "heated" but did not involve any threats.

"What's relevant is not whether this guy's a good guy, nice guy, or whether he's a jerk, or whether he's a thorn in people's side and what he's done, whether it's three weeks ago, three months ago or three years ago", Gualtieri said.

Inside the store, a witness told the store clerk there was an argument outside. Rich Kelly says the man picked a fight with him over a parking spot, using racial slurs, and even threatening to kill him. At one point Drejka threatened to shoot Kelly. "Just to argue just to find someone to argue with", Selous said.
