Trump tells attorney general to end Russian Federation probe 'disgrace'

US President Donald Trump has called for his attorney-general Jeff Sessions to end special counsel Robert Mueller's probe of Russia's election intervention, a day after Mr Trump's former campaign chairman went on trial.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is scheduled to hold a briefing today at around10 AM PT, though she's usually fashionably late.

Trump's tweets comes after the president denied Tuesday there was any "collusion" between his presidential campaign and Russian Federation, and declared that "collusion is not a crime" anyway.

A Justice Department spokeswoman declined to comment about Trump's call for Sessions to end the investigation. "Because Paul Manafort worked for Donald Trump".

Even as his lawyers scrambled to convey what Trump intended, the president continued to tweet about the Russian Federation probe.

Reaction from Democrats to the president's tweet was swift.

Later, asked about the remark, Giuliani said "of course" obstruction of justice is a crime, but that "under Article II of the Constitution, if the President is acting within his capacity as President, and he fires someone, then that can't be questioned".

He cited the fact he was a senior adviser to Mr Trump's presidential campaign, and appointed Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to oversee the investigation instead.

The obstruction investigation reportedly worries Trump more than Mueller's collusion probe, The Post said, because Trump himself would be personally implicated in any obstruction charges, while it remains unclear whether Trump can be charged with collusion - that is, conspiracy - related to the Russian Federation investigation. He also suggested the investigation is politically biased. Prosecutors are expected to detail Manafort's lucrative business relationship with Russia-friendly leaders in Ukraine.

As well, Manafort faces a second trial later this year in D.C., in which the charges he faces include conspiracy against the United States, conspiracy to launder money, failure to register as a foreign agent and obstruction of justice.

"A man in this courtroom believed the law did not apply to him - not tax law, not banking law", Asonye said as he sketched out the evidence gathered by Mueller's team in Manafort's bank fraud and tax evasion trial.

Manafort-who the president announced was being treated worse than notorious mobster Al Capone-"worked for me for a very short time", Trump wrote in a subsequent tweet.

She noted that Trump wants the probe to "come to an end".

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., the ranking Democrat on the House intelligence committee, called Trump's demand "an attempt to obstruct justice hiding in plain sight".

The President has said many times he would be willing to speak with Mueller but would await his legal teams guidance.
