José Mourinho takes aim at Manchester United’s board

France World Cup victor Pogba has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona in recent days, with the player's refusal to deny the links with the Catalan giants via his various social media platforms fuelling rumours that he is open to leaving United in this transfer window.

He has been linked with moves to Barcelona and Juventus after sources told ESPN FC the 25-year-old was unhappy at some of Mourinho's criticism of him during the summer.

Pogba's mentality has been questioned by Mourinho and the midfielder was dropped last season for the Champions League tie against Sevilla.

This was the case last night, although Manchester United pushed those nerves aside, as Paul Pogba fired home from the spot early on. If you have round pegs in round holes, and all of them are doing the right job at the same time, then you are going to do well. "He played the World Cup not so long ago and played today, which shows how fit he is".

Pogba was pushed on his response and said that "if you're not happy, you can not give your best" when asked about what represents happiness and comfort for him.

"It's a different team, obviously".

In comments widely regarded as reflecting continuing problems with his relationship with the United boss, he wrote: "I'll always give my best for the fans and my team mates, no matter what's going on".

Despite aiming his ire at the United board, Mourinho did have some positive things to say about Paul Pogba, who was captain for the night, scored and put in a man-of-the-match performance after a preseason spanning four days and returning to Carrington on Monday. Paul, he was fantastic his contribution was incredible, but the fuel was disappearing every minute so we were in trouble and I needed [Marouane] Fellaini and [Scott] McTominay to give me that balance in midfield.

"I always give my best for the fans, for the team mates. and for the people that trust me". Just try to help the team as much as possible, like they helped me too.

I wanted to play Martial for [Juan] Mata or Alexis [Sanchez] but I can't. [Shaw's] game was very complete, even if I forget the goal, of course an important goal for us, but the performance was very complete.
