'Storm Ernesto' looks set to hit Ireland this weekend

The storm is due to hit the United Kingdom this weekend and will nearly certainly bring heavy wind and showers.

The subtropical storm has been making its way across the Atlantic and is set to reach Ireland on Saturday night.

If you were planning a barbecue for this weekend you may want to rethink your plans as Ireland is in the path of a rather nasty-looking storm.

Northern Ireland, Scotland and western England are all expected to feel the effects of the severe weather, which could potentially be upgraded to a hurricane today.

The Met Office said that by the time Ernesto hits the United Kingdom he will no longer have storm status, but he will still bring heavy rain and winds.

Winds from the storm will generate significant swells over part of the north-central Atlantic.
