Emery to give Cech the nod against Chelsea

Arsenal boss Unai Emery will stick with Petr Cech as the goalkeeper when his side takes on Chelsea in London derby on Saturday 18th.

He attempted more passes against Man City than in any game he played in last season but conceded possession to Pep Guardiola's team 11 times.

"First game of the season that would worry me". Maybe in one match you can be very happy with the performance and the result - and I want that on Saturday.

Emery replaced Arsene Wenger as head coach of the Gunners at the end of the 2017-18 campaign, and his reign started with a 2-0 home defeat to Manchester City on the opening weekend.

But arguably the most exciting addition came in the form of a new goalkeeper, as German worldwide Bernd Leno joined from Bayer Leverkusen.

Cech questioned the "professionalism" on display and later received an apology from Leverkusen - but it appears he has retained the backing of Emery ahead of Saturday's trip to Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal have begun a new era under Emery.

On top of Leno, Arsenal's summer signings have all be brought in with an eye to strengthening a porous defence. He has this experience for continuing to defend our goal. A record Emery is keen to improve on quickly.

"That Arsenal team have been struggling for a few years and it takes time to build something, and if you deviate from that straight away you already give away your power and style of play".

It is Aubameyang who has made the more favourable impression since signing for the Gunners from Borussia Dortmund for a club record £57m, although he has yet to produce the goods in a big game.
