Canadians Wickens, Hinchcliff involved in scary crash at Pocono

Canadian rookie Robert Wickens was in hospital with "orthopedic injuries" after a frightening airborne crash in the early stages of the IndyCar Pocono race won by ex-Formula One racer Alexander Rossi. "Robert Wickens was awake and alert when he came here and he's being transported to LeHigh Valley Cedarcrest hospital in Allentown for evaluation".

Wickens' auto drove over Hunter-Reay and went air born just as cars were reaching top speed.

Wickens launched over Hunter-Reay's auto and sailed into the catchfence, where the main body of his IndyCar spun several times before landing back onto the track in pieces.

IndyCar said Wickens was awake and alert as he was taken to a hospital.

Canadian IndyCar driver Robert Wickens was taken by helicopter for medical treatment following a violent wreck at the start of Sunday's race at Pocono Raceway, where a driver was killed in 2015. Numerous drivers admitted they thought about what had happened to Wickens and chose to take a more cautious approach to the remainder of the contest.

"He is hurt but hopefully not too bad".

Hunter-Reay, James Hinchcliffe, Pietro Fittipaldi and Takuma Sato were among the drivers collected in Sunday's wreck.

After the almost two-hour stoppage in the race, the contest resumed when the green flag waved on lap 12 with Alexander Rossi in the lead. Sato was also checked and released, as were Fittipaldi and Hinchcliffe later.

Kawuma was shot dead on Monday at Hotel Pacific parking lot in Arua. "It is hard to say whether he understands this and that". The beating of Ssentamu, however, has only boosted his popularity and led to calls for a presidential run in 2021.

"I was lucky to get out of that one", said Hunter-Reay.

"I am a little sore", said Fittipaldi, who was knocked out of the race.

"I was in the draft of Power ahead of me". I thought, at that point, I had cleared him. (Zach) Veach started sliding up, I tried to slow down and just kind of lost it in the fray.

Australian driver Will Power said he was relieved to know Wickens, who drives for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, was alert. I took my hands off the wheel when I went backwards, and I think some piece of debris came in as I was holding them (my hands) in, kind of just smacked the top of them so I took of bit of beating, but nothing is broken, just some swelling and some cuts.

"It may not be the prettiest job but it's going to be safe", May said.

Robert Wickens went soaring into the fence at Pocono Raceway in a scary wreck that brought the IndyCar race to a halt.

He also closed to within just 29 points of New Zealand's Scott Dixon, who leads the championship points race with 530 points. Rossi, Newgarden and Power all have Dixon in sight with four races left in the IndyCar season.
