Cincinnati Masters: Kiki Bertens upsets Simona Halep to win title

World No 1 Simona Halep crashed to a shock defeat to Kiki Bertens in a dramatic final of the Western & Southern Open.

Dutch tennis player Kiki Bertens survived a championship point to beat world number one Simona Halep and win the Cincinnati Masters on Sunday.

Juan Martin del Potro and Nick Kyrgios split two tiebreaks before Del Potro prevailed in the third set for a 7-6 (4), 6-7 (6), 6-2 win.

Bertens' victory - the biggest of her career - ends a nine-match winning streak for Halep, who triumphed at the Rogers Cup in Montreal, Canada, last week.

Bertens, rebounding after a quick first set loss, outlasted Romania's top seed in an exhausting second set tiebreaker.

"I was a little bit exhausted this week but it was a pleasure to come here and play". She fell to 0-3 in Cincinnati finals, finishing as the runner-up in 2015, 2017 and this year.

Another swing came early in the tie-break as Bertens reeled off four points in a row to establish a 4-2 lead and, having later saved Championship point, she took the set.

Kevin Spacey flick 'Billionaire Boys Club' is a box office loser
Distributor Vertical Entertainment said that the film was made before allegations about Spacey's conduct were made public. It said Spacey's behaviour was not publicly known at the time of filming and that he has "a small, supporting role".

The depleted Halep is still entered as top seed in the upcoming WTA tournament in New Haven, which ends just two days prior to the start of the US Open in NY.

Halep will be ranked No. 1 through the U.S. Open.

Bertens kept up the pressure and advanced with a victor on her first match point, posting her second career win over Hale six years after beating her for the first time.

While not specifying if she will actually play, Halep said she would travel to CT on Monday.

"But also I take the positive from these two weeks", she added.
