Gmail for Android adds confidential mode

Gmail has extended its confidential mode, a feature that lets emails self-destruct, as some headline writers put it, to Android and iOS.

Confidential Mode, introduced as part of the new Gmail, has arrived on mobile. Following very basic steps, users can mark their emails as confidential, and set a time limit for visibility. While confidential mode can't prevent recipients from taking a screenshot of your email - and indeed, might not be able to prevent devices with malicious software from downloading the content of your email - it still offers a layer of protection when sending sensitive messages. Tap on that and you'll be given options to set a passcode for the email, an expiration date, and more. When this is enabled, the recipient will get a text message containing the passcode, and they have to enter it to unlock the email.

Android Police spotted a label that contains the "title "Schedule send" that goes with a new entry in the overflow menu of the Compose screen". The self-destruct timer for the email is available for up to five years with the least available timing being one day, so if you choose that, your email will disappear in 24 hours.

Thoughts about Gmail's Confidential Mode? Another minor downside might be if you don't check your email a lot, and then the message expires before you've seen it. What do you think of Gmail's new addition? In case they change their mind about wanting the recipient to see the message, access can be revoked. But those who use another email service will still have to use a passcode to access the info. Google added the feature recently in all Android applications.

On the top right, tap on three dots and tap on Confidential Mode. One of the revered features from the desktop version of Gmail has now been ported to the mobile app, which has been deemed as Gmail Confidential Mode. Earlier confidential mail could only be sent by using Gmail on the Web.
